$1m Committed to the Fight Against COVID-19

Back in March, Ben and Teresa committed $1m of the Chestnut Family Foundation funds to help non-profits meet the most basic needs of those affected by stay at home orders put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19. To date $635,000 has been granted to a variety of non-profits. The donations include contributions to the response and recovery funds created by community foundations and the United Way organizations in Atlanta and Augusta; and providing support to enable non-profits to pivot resources towards the provision of supplies and services to those most in need. Examples of organizations supported includes: CHRIS-180, CommonLit, and the Atlanta Children’s Shelter. Another two organizations that have used the Foundation’s support to rapidly adapt to the new challenges facing our community are the Atlanta Music Project and Soccer in the Streets. The Atlanta Music Project has quickly and creatively moved from providing in-person lessons and tuition to the delivery of a comprehensive range of lessons and seminars online. Soccer into the Streets has redirected its resources away from the development of life skills through soccer to supporting education and the delivery of food and groceries to those in need. Ben and Teresa’s work on helping reduce the impact on the most vulnerable people in our community continues. There is still much more to be done.
